Prevention of Sample Contamination during Drying

In continuation from last month’s tip we will be looking at the prevention of sample contamination during the drying phase of sample preparation.

All contact surfaces on the filter presses need to be rust free and thoroughly cleaned and rinsed. The filter pot needs to be securel
clamped in place after the filter cloth and paper is in place to prevent seepage.

Its common knowledge that poor sample preparation is, next to poor sampling, the largest source of bias in the evaluation of a mineral sample. Sample preparation methods should therefore be selected as carefully as the actual analytical methods. Methods should be designed to maximize repeatability and eliminate contamination.
